UCT Faculty of Science Open Day Saturday 22 April 2017
The University of Cape Town (UCT) held this year's annual Open Day from 10 AM - 3 PM on Saturday 22 April 2017. The Plant Conservation Unit team got involved in the event and helped out at the Department of Biological Sciences stand in Jameson Hall alongside other Departments that fall under the Faculty of Science. Many students came to see our exhibition, which included very old fossils; a sediment core and microscopes that showed fossil pollen, spores and charcoal; and a slideshow of repeat photography demonstrating vegetation change in different parts of southern Africa over time. The students also learnt more about the undergrad programme and its Majors, such as Marine Biology, Applied Biology, and Ecology and Evolution (http://www.biologicalsciences.uct.ac.za/bio/undergrad/study).
Overall it was a huge success, where thousands of learners engaged with the different Departments to more about research opportunities at UCT, and we look forward to getting involved again next year!
